Punctuality is absolutely critical in retail shift work. Store managers know that candidates with a long, complex commute are statistically more likely to arrive late or resign due to travel fatigue. Therefore, the ATS often uses a postcode radius filter to prioritize local candidates.
If you are applying to a store that is twenty miles away for a minimum-wage role, the system may automatically flag your application as a high attrition risk. This is especially true for roles requiring early morning starts (e.g., 5:00 AM) when public transport is simply not running.
If you are planning to relocate, or if you drive and are perfectly happy with the commute, the automated system does not know this unless you tell it. You must address this in your profile or CV to bypass the Dependability filter.
"Currently relocating to [Town Name], arriving next month. I possess a full UK driving licence and my own vehicle, ensuring reliable transport for early morning shifts."
Without this vital context, the geographic filter will simply assume the commute is unviable and reject you before a human ever gets to review your application.
